We were five families gathering for a special birthday and we occupied most of the premises so I know what almost all the properties were like. The layout, design and fittings were quite exceptional in their planning, execution and level of luxury. The proprietors were especially helpful too. They arranged a splendid buffet lunch for our family and guests and served and cleared it afterwards! Nothing was too much trouble for Jan and Richard and their charges were very reasonable.

The Hyning Estate is about 8 miles from Kendal and from the M6, and the south lakes are within reach as are so many of the attractions of the Lake District. The younger family members loved Brockhole near Windermere for its adventure playground, lake swimming and boat trips while the aesthetes appreciated Blackwell, the Arts and Craft house near Bowness, as well as Ruskin's and Wordsworth's homes, all of which are within easy reach. Steam trains and walking, serious or strolls, as well as fine dining are all available in the area. These are exceptional holiday properties in an exceptional part of our country.
