First "Borrowdale Challenge" Winners

Janette & Simon from Teddington, Middlesex become the Estate's first Guests to complete The Hyning Estate's "Borrowdale Challenge"

First Winners of The Hyning Estate's Borrowdale Cycling Challenge

Janette & Simon from Teddington Middx. became the first to claim their round of complimentary drinks from The Patio @Reception after they completed The Borrowdale Challenge (The Hyning Estate's "Ride 4").

For Janette & Simon this was a last-minute booking but they were still able to get two bikes delivered (& accessories) shortly after they arrived. Simon came prepared with the OS maps loaded on his mobile phone and loaded our GPX routes from this website, warming up on the Estate's "Route 1" prior to "Route 4" (the Challenge). The couple were delighted to be able to get out and enjoy the quiet roads and tracks.

The Challenge is open to all and within the grasp of those of us who only cycle occasionally. The route (which starts from The Hyning Estate) is relatively straightforward but may be challenging in terms of distance and / or total climb.

A mixture of narrow lanes and bridleways but with one very small section on the A685 Tebay road - 18.4 miles, total climb 2300 feet. A varied, challenging and most rewarding ride in 3 main sections, the first which takes you on narrow lanes to the North West end of Borrowdale. The second stage is down the quiet, secluded and picturesque Borrowdale Valley over bridleways which turn into gravel tracks before emerging at the South East end. The last section takes you under the M6 and mainline railway along the Lune Valley via Howgill Lane, over the Crook of Lune Bridge and under the Lowgill Viaduct - find out more here
